Why deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. Unlike classic massage therapy, which is typically for relaxation, deep tissue massage focuses on a specific problem, such as:

• Chronic joint or muscle pain
• Whiplash or sports injuries
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Stiff neck, back or shoulder
• Fibromyalgia
• Muscle spasms
• Osteoarthritis pain

How does deep tissue massage work with chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care realigns the spine for optimum health and wellness. In the process of your treatment, especially if you seek care after an injury or if you experience chronic muscle tension, your body builds up bands of painful, rigid tissue in your muscles and ligaments. Deep tissue massage breaks down this rigidity to relieve your pain and allow an improved range of movement.

What can I expect during and after my visit?

During your massage, our therapists may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms to target specific areas on your body. You may be asked to breathe deeply as he or she works on certain areas of muscle tension and focuses on your sources of pain. Most of our patients experience relief almost immediately.

After your deep tissue massage, you may experience some stiffness or pain from the treatment, but this will dissipate within a day or so. This is a normal part of the deep tissue healing process. Our Massage Therapists will recommend applying ice or heat to painful areas after your massage. It is also very important to drink plenty of water after the massage to flush metabolic waste from your tissues.
